Built by someone who has been the patient and never forgotten it.

How it started

Patient Billing was founded in 2018 by Richard Shawyer. But to understand why, you have to go back further.

In 2010, Richard founded his first medical billing business, driven by something personal: his own experiences as a patient. He knew first-hand how confusing, impersonal and frustrating healthcare billing could be and he set out to change it. That business grew, succeeded, and was eventually acquired by an American investor.

After moving on, something unexpected happened. Former clients started calling, asking for him back. They missed the expertise, yes, but more than that, they missed the philosophy. In 2018, Richard answered that call and Patient Billing was born.

Growth came quickly. Then the pandemic arrived. While the industry slowed, our tech team accelerated using the pause to build out the ideas that had been waiting in the wings. When healthcare bounced back, we were ready.

We expanded into Revenue Cycle Management, onboarding a major US healthcare brand making its entry into the London market. We learnt from each other. That partnership strengthened us and we've since gone on to serve large facilities including NHS Private Patient Units.

Through every stage of our growth, one thing has never changed: we put the patient at the heart of everything we do, while delivering an efficient, reliable service for our clients.
